Books from libray (ancient egypt)

So after beginning my research i went to the my local library to gather some books that i would find relevant to my studio work. These are the books that i have gotten out, in the hope it will help my design and research. I am going to flick through these books and scan and quote interesting parts of the book. After flicking through life after death by Deepak Chopra, i can see its not really what i was hoping for after, it doesn't relate hugely to my project so there probably wont be any references coming from that book.

Spells for eternity by John H Taylor

This attractive and concise introduction to the Books of the Dead explores the collection of magical spells on papyrus that the Egyptians believed would help them safely reach their afterlife. Brand new photography captures the exquisite detail of the painted vignettes that accompany the spells. For most Egyptians, life on earth was short. However death was not an end; it was merely the entering of a new phase of being. They believed that the afterlife was a real place, but various obstacles, torments and judgements had to be overcome to reach it. To ensure safe passage, wealthy Egyptians took with them specially commissioned compilations of spells, written on papyrus rolls.

Egyptian Book of the dead - translated by  Wallis Budge

The book details the Egyptian view of the afterlife. Included are spells, hymns and instructions for the dead to pass through obstacles in the afterlife. This papyrus scroll was placed in the coffin of the deceased. The Book of the Dead was first thought to be a Bible but is it not a religious work. It is more of an instruction manual for the recently departed.

Gods and Myths of Ancient Egypt - Robert A. Armour
This text, complete with photographs and illustrations that show the gods and goddesses in their characteristic forms, is a retelling of stories from Ancient Egyptian mythology. The stories featured include those of the sun god Ra, the tragic death and rebirth of Osris with the help of Isis, the near-burlesque of Horus' battle with the evil Seth, and the "gods of intellect" Thoth and Maat. With an updated bibliography and glossary as well as new charts showing the gods at-a-glance and Ancient Egyptian chronology in brief, this book is designed to enchant and inform a new generation of readers.
